Using Rally’s WAR database and OPS+ data from Baseball-Reference, I’ve constructed these sortable tables for the 2010 Hall of Fame candidates. In addition to the more traditional OPS+ and ERA+, I’ve added Wins Above Replacement (WAR). Not only that, but I’ve included most of the numbers that go into the calculation of WAR. Yesterday as I was either digesting turkey or taking a nap, the 2010 Hall of Fame ballot was announced. Shockingly, it took me 24 hours to realize this. I suppose that means it’s been a good break!
While I’ll try to go into painstaking detail about each of these cases, here’s a quick first impression of each candidate. (more…)
I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Congrats to them both. In my Hall of Fame ballot post, I put my support behind both of them. Rickey was at the top of my list. I wouldn’t say Rice was that high on my list, but I’m pretty confident he deserved his induction. (more…)
