Using Rally’s WAR database and OPS+ data from Baseball-Reference, I’ve constructed these sortable tables for the 2010 Hall of Fame candidates. In addition to the more traditional OPS+ and ERA+, I’ve added Wins Above Replacement (WAR). Not only that, but I’ve included most of the numbers that go into the calculation of WAR. Now that Baseball Projection has released their Historical WAR stats, I feel like I need to play with it as much as I can. Since I’m pretty obsessed with all things Hall of Fame, I figured I’d take a look at the hitters on last year’s Hall of Fame ballot and compare their WAR (wins above replacement) to their voting percentage. Yesterday, ESPN posted their Hall of Fame ballot. 11 members of the ESPN staff have Hall of Fame votes. They all made them public and tallied them up. From the results, Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice would be elected (which is the likely scenario). (more…)
