Using Rally’s WAR database and OPS+ data from Baseball-Reference, I’ve constructed these sortable tables for the 2010 Hall of Fame candidates. In addition to the more traditional OPS+ and ERA+, I’ve added Wins Above Replacement (WAR). Not only that, but I’ve included most of the numbers that go into the calculation of WAR. Now that Baseball Projection has released their Historical WAR stats, I feel like I need to play with it as much as I can. Since I’m pretty obsessed with all things Hall of Fame, I figured I’d take a look at the hitters on last year’s Hall of Fame ballot and compare their WAR (wins above replacement) to their voting percentage. I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Congrats to them both. In my Hall of Fame ballot post, I put my support behind both of them. Rickey was at the top of my list. I wouldn’t say Rice was that high on my list, but I’m pretty confident he deserved his induction. (more…)
